A private getaway to relax and unwind from modern day living
Welcome
Stretton House Lodge is open all year round and sleeps up to 2 guests in the very comfortable double bed. Located in the pretty Devonshire village of Dolton, Stretton House Lodge offers stylish accommodation for a couple wanting a peaceful escape to the Devon countryside. Step inside and be welcomed to a light and bright open-plan living area, perfect for spot of relaxation after a day exploring the wilds of Dartmoor or Exmoor. Take some time to unwind on the sofa in front of the TV before rustling up dinner for two in the well-appointed kitchen. Enjoy a restful night in the double bedroom and wake up each morning to a refreshing shower before heading out.
You can enjoy morning coffee in the courtyard garden, with the soothing sounds of the birds in the trees for company. It also makes a lovely spot in the evenings, when the sun is setting to enjoy a meal. For a night away from the kitchen, there are two pubs in the village (about half a mile, 10 min walk) one of which is a good food pub, and numerous other pubs and eateries within a short drive. Dolton is a charming, friendly village with an incredibly well stocked shop/post office and local butchers to cater for all.
Winding lanes, high hedgerows and a gentler pace of life characterise the area. The surrounding countryside is perfect for dog walking down leafy lanes or at the nearby nature reserve. Discover Winkleigh, a small rural village in the heart of Devon's rolling countryside, just 7 miles away, which offers a shop, post office, butcher and a cafe, plus two pubs, one which offers food and the chance to sample traditional ciders and scrumpy from the Winkleigh Cider Company.
For days further out, you're within easy reach of the open tors of Dartmoor (a big attraction for nature lovers and walkers) and the hills of Exmoor, while the north Devon beaches can all be reached in 40 minutes by car. Explore historic Torrington, home to RHS Rosemoor, Dartington Glass and The Plough arts centre. Whilst the Cathedral City of Exeter with its Roman city walls, shopping centre, theatre and restaurants makes a great day out too. Hire bikes in Barnstaple and cycle the Tarka Trail! Or visit the War Horse Valley Country Farm Park with a farm trail to walk, tractor rides to enjoy and a wealth of history. Visit Cornwall's northern coast at Bude where you'll discover a great selection of sandy beaches for surfing, swimming and sunbathing, from Summerleaze in Bude to Widemouth Bay.
Stretton House Lodge promises a memorable holiday for two in this tranquil part of Devon.
